Since mid 2015 James has worked with Robertson Burns across Australia in a variety of sectors. This has included coaching executives at all levels on lifting their personal presence and engagement skills, training rising talent in the fundamentals of effective communication and supporting new business pitches.
For James, communication is about creating engaging and productive relationships. He has a passion for bringing people out of themselves and empowering them to foster not just the substance of their business but also the sentiment.
James is a trained and working actor and dynamic thinker based in Sydney. He was a Dean’s Scholar at the University of Wollongong where he double-majored in Performance and Creative Writing and graduated with Honours 1st Class. During his time at UoW, James learned to perform and write; he was also selected to receive personal tutelage on directing from Tim Maddock and Cath MacKinnon of The Red Shed Theatre Company. Since graduating James has been a regular performer and associate artist with the re:group performance collective, Shopfront Theatre and the Department of Education. He has worked in theatres across Sydney and the Illawarra region.
James has always enjoyed creating and exploring the detailed psychology of his characters to reveal a greater sense of authenticity in his portrayals. For him, every character, hero and villain has a depth of emotion and good intentions – the fun and challenge of acting is finding and empathising with these hidden agendas while acknowledging the complexity of humanity. As a director, James’s methodology is centred around these notions, drawing out the authentic, emotional core of his actors to allow them to evolve and take shape on stage.
James’s working experience has given him a finely tuned sense of the nuances involved in the authentic connection between people in a variety of settings and the ability to achieve outcomes through the effective presentation and communication of ideas.
